Conflict in Yemen cuts off about 800,000 people from food aid: WFP

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has said that 800,000 people in Yemen have been cut off from life-saving food assistance due to escalating conflict. The programme said that continuing front lines in the war, blocked roads and a deteriorating security situation have made it difficult to deliver relief to key areas.
According to WFP, the situation is most severe in Taiz, the country's third-largest city. The risk of fighting and road closures has prevented relief workers from reaching settlements housing thousands of displaced families.
In Taiz alone, more than 600,000 people have been unable to receive food assistance, including about 200,000 women and children. Beyond Taiz, access to relief has also recently been obstructed along the western coastal belt.
In areas where the food crisis is deepening, flour stocks have started running out, while the availability of grain in local markets continues to decline.
