Group prepares to register 'Nagarik Janata Party' ahead of local elections, proposes dhakiya basket as symbol

A group from the former Nagarik Unmukti Party in Kailali is preparing to register a new party called 'Nagarik Janata Party.'
The preparation to register the party is being led by Ramlal Dagaura Tharu, outgoing mayor of Tikapur Municipality. According to Dagaura, the plan is to register the party before the upcoming local-level election.
He said discussions are underway on placing a dhakiya (a traditional basket) inside a circle as the proposed party's election symbol.
The Nagarik Unmukti Party had been registered under the chairmanship of Ranjita Shrestha before the previous local election. That party won the chief post in 3 of Kailali's 13 local levels and the deputy chief post in one. It is currently inactive after merging with the Nepal Communist Party.
