Rs 550 billion needed for post-disaster reconstruction, 504 projects proposed

The government has put forward 504 projects for the reconstruction of damage caused by the Bhotekoshi, Kaligandaki and Budhigandaki floods and other weather-related disasters.

A recommendation has been sent to the Ministry of Finance to approve a budget of around Rs 560 billion for these projects. The decision to make this recommendation was taken a few days ago at the 21st meeting of the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.

According to Dr Dharmaraj Uprety, chief executive of the Disaster Management Authority, the budget has been sent out broken down by ministry heading. He said about Rs 418 million is needed for four programs that must be carried out immediately under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, while Rs 452.4 million has been sought for five medium- and long-term programs.
