Dashain travelers return to Kathmandu Valley, traffic builds at entry points

As more people return to Kathmandu Valley after celebrating Dashain, traffic has increased at the main entry points into the valley. According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, more vehicles are being seen on the Naagdhunga-Kalanki, Jadibuti-Koteshwor, Teenpiple and Jagati (Bhaktapur) sections. Traffic has also increased on the Bhattedanda and Dakshinkali-Pharping roads.
People returning from their villages after receiving tika and blessings are entering the capital in both private and public vehicles. Senior Superintendent of Police Suresh Prasad Kafle, chief of the office, said traffic police have been actively deployed to ease the flow of traffic.
According to spokesperson Naresh Raj Subedi, monitoring on the roads has been increased as the number of returnees keeps rising each day. He said the aim is to manage traffic flow and reduce the chances of accidents. Traffic police have tightened management on busy roads within the valley as well as at the main entry points. The number of people returning to the capital is expected to keep rising as the Dashain holiday draws to a close.
