Foreign mountaineers have for the first time completed a ski mountaineering descent from the summit of 6,966-metre Dorje Lakpa in Jugal Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchok.

Climbing guide Dawa Gyalje Sherpa said the team completed the ski descent from the summit at 1:45 pm on Kartik 3.

The team of four Americans and one Canadian, accompanied by three Nepali guides, had reached the 4,190-metre base camp a week earlier. It was led by well-known American ski mountaineer Nicholas Mattej Russler, with William Robert Haas also part of the team.

Bad weather forced the team to remain at base camp for several days. During that time, they skied for a while around Camp 2 at 6,000 metres.

Dorje Lakpa is considered a highly difficult peak for both climbing and skiing.
