Mithila tradition's Ravana-slaying festival held at various places in Mahottari on Vijaya Dashami

The Ravana-slaying festival celebrated in Mithila on the day of Sharadiya Dashahara, or Vijaya Dashami, has concluded at many places in Mahottari district.

The festival was marked by staging the Ravana-slaying play on Wednesday evening at various places in the district, including Matihani. According to Maithil tradition, it is customary to celebrate this festival on the day of Vijaya Dashami.

According to religious belief, Ravana was slain on the day of Asoj Shukla Dashami in the Treta Yuga, and in keeping with this, the Ravana-slaying festival is celebrated every year in Mithila on Vijaya Dashami.

The festival, observed on the day of Dashain's Tika, has added to the festivity of Vijaya Dashami in the Mithila region.
