Parliamentary hearing panel rejects names of two proposed ambassadors to Saudi Arabia and Malaysia

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has rejected the names of two proposed ambassadors recommended by the Council of Ministers. The committee rejected the names of Giri Bahadur Sunar, proposed as ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and Chudamani Kharel, proposed as ambassador to Malaysia.
The two names recommended by the government for ambassadorial posts were stopped at the parliamentary hearing stage itself. The matter has drawn attention after the parliamentary committee took this decision on the government's recommendation.
According to Setopati, both of the rejected names had been added by Kumar Bel. With this committee decision, a power struggle between the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the government over ambassadorial appointments has come into the open.
Both Saudi Arabia and Malaysia are major destination countries for Nepali migrant workers. Following the committee's decision, the process of appointing ambassadors to these two countries has been halted.
