Eight Karnali local unit centers and four Bajura wards still outside the road network

Four wards in Bajura district in Sudurpashchim still have no road access. Without roads, residents there struggle to transport daily consumer goods, take patients to health facilities, and carry agricultural produce to market. Even for routine tasks, they are forced to walk for hours.
Bajura, comprising four municipalities and five rural municipalities for a total of nine local levels, covers an area of 2,188 square kilometers. Of this, Himali Rural Municipality, the largest local level in the district by area, covers 830 square kilometers.
Although budget has been allocated to connect two wards of Himali Rural Municipality with roads, work has been delayed due to the contractor. Although contract agreements have been signed, road expansion has not moved forward because of non-implementation.
In the neighboring Karnali Province as well, motorable roads have yet to reach the centers of eight of the 79 local levels. Among them, four local unit centers in Dolpa, three in Kalikot and one in Mugu remain unconnected to the national road network. There too, daily goods must be carried by people and mules.
