Police have seized a consignment of cigarettes lacking legal documents from the cargo complex at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, before it could be sent abroad.

According to the airport security office, about 1,000 packets of cigarettes were seized, packed in about 100 bundles inside a single carton.

The carton appeared suspicious when an X-ray machine on the 'A side' of the international cargo complex building scanned goods being sent abroad. Security personnel took control of the carton, which was being sent abroad through a private logistics company, and examined it further.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Silwal, spokesperson for the airport security office, said that when the carton was opened and inspected, cigarettes labelled 'Surya Luxury King' were found inside. According to him, the goods appeared to have been illegally sent because the legal documents required for export had not been completed.
