NPL broadcast: NetTV disruptions, complaints over OTT fees, CAN warns against unauthorized screening

As the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) began, both viewer complaints and organizer warnings have emerged over its broadcast. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has said that within Nepal, only Himalaya Sports on television and NetTV on OTT hold exclusive broadcast rights.
Matches can be watched free on Himalaya Sports, while viewing on mobile and computer requires paying Rs 400 for a season pass. Viewers abroad are being charged between $4 and $10.
Viewers who paid the fee vented their anger after the NetTV app and website showed video buffering and loading problems during the opening match.
Meanwhile, CAN has issued a public notice directing that only the official feed be used at fan parks, public screenings and promotional events. It has also warned that legal action will be taken against anyone who screens or rebroadcasts matches using an unauthorized feed. CAN has asked all franchise teams, venues, event organizers, sponsors and partners to comply with this arrangement throughout the tournament.
Separately, Dish Home has said active DTH and IPTV subscribers can watch matches in HD on its two channels, Himalaya Sports and Star Sports Select, without any extra charge. On days with two matches, broadcasts will start at 12:30 pm and 5 pm.
