IGP Karki directs police to stay devoted to public service

Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki has directed chiefs of police offices across the country to make security arrangements effective for the upcoming festivals of Tihar, Nepal Sambat, Chhath and Lhosar.

Addressing the gathering virtually from Police Headquarters, he urged personnel to fully devote themselves to service while addressing public grievances. He said police should be mobilized with special security plans to prevent criminal activities such as looting and theft that can occur during festivals.

He also directed that vehicles' mechanical condition be checked in coordination with concerned agencies to reduce road accidents, and called for a crackdown on drunk or drug-impaired driving, overloading, and traffic rule violations.

He said that although the security situation during Dashain was satisfactory apart from traffic accidents, improvements are needed wherever weaknesses were seen.

According to an officer present, Karki expressed strong displeasure at a tendency by some within the organization itself to spread rumors against him, and warned that departmental action would be taken against such individuals.
