French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu has said new curfews will be imposed in necessary parts of the country. He said efforts are underway to restore normalcy following weekend protests over the cost of living and issues in the education system.

The French government has acknowledged it was unable to control the violence and looting that occurred on October 17. The army will now be deployed alongside police for the demonstrations planned for next Saturday.

Protests took place across France on Saturday over rising prices and dissatisfaction with the state of schools. Around five thousand people took part in a demonstration in Limoges.

One person was arrested in connection with the destruction of a historic town hall building during the protests. The student and civilian movement, which has continued in France over the past week, has caused turmoil in the country's political and security apparatus after turning violent.
