Government forms four-member team for talks with fasting Dr Govinda KC

Kathmandu. The government has formed a four-member negotiating team to hold talks and dialogue with Prof Dr Govinda KC, who is on a hunger strike demanding reforms in medical education.
The team, coordinated by Joint Secretary Jayram Adhikari of the Ministry of Education and Sports, includes the member-secretary of the Medical Education Commission and a representative of the Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene, among others.
The ministry said it has taken Dr KC's demands seriously and with sensitivity, and has called on the fasting side to seek a solution through talks and dialogue.
Dr KC has demanded, among other things, that the permission granted to run MBBS and nursing programs without adequate infrastructure at Geta be revoked, and that the conflict of interest seen in appointments of officials to the Medical Education Commission and universities be ended.
