Home Minister Gurung pins rank insignia on newly appointed IGP KC

Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has conferred rank insignia on Nepal Police's newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Manoj Kumar KC. Gurung pinned the insignia on KC at a programme held at the Home Ministry on Wednesday. KC is Nepal Police's 34th IGP.
While the Home Secretary has conventionally conferred the rank insignia in the past, this time the Home Minister himself did so. Outgoing IGP Dan Bahadur Karki was absent from the programme. KC received the insignia on the same day his promotion was decided.
At the programme, Home Minister Gurung said there was a wide gap between citizens and police that needed to be narrowed. He directed the police organisation to behave in a citizen-friendly manner, maintain peace and security, control crime, and play an effective role in disaster management.
Newly appointed IGP KC said Nepal Police must work in a way that instils trust, not fear, among citizens. He said there would be no compromise on the organisation's dignity and impartiality, and called for granting police operational autonomy and keeping the force free from party influence. KC holds a PhD in conflict transformation from Cambodia.
