Two months after Bhotekoshi flood, effort to get affected children back into classrooms

Two months after the flood that hit Rasuwa's Bhotekoshi on Bhadra 10, classes are gradually resuming at affected schools.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority's rapid damage assessment report, 18 schools in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading were affected, of which 11 were completely damaged.
The report shows 56 buildings at these schools were affected, with 156 rooms completely destroyed and 152 rooms partially damaged. In Rasuwa's Uttargaya Rural Municipality alone, six buildings across three schools, totalling 36 rooms, were completely destroyed. At a school in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality, 11 rooms across two buildings were also completely destroyed. Schools in Nuwakot's Bidur Municipality were also affected by the flood.
According to Shankar Adhikari, joint secretary at the Education Ministry's planning and budget division, efforts are also underway to continue early learning programmes for children under five. The ministry said early learning and education are being provided, in coordination with local governments, from schools near where the children are currently staying.
