Students are confused about the recognition of their certificates after Lumbini Buddhist University merged professional programs such as engineering, management and tourism into the Faculty of Applied Buddhist Studies.

The university's senate has divided all academic programs into two parts, core Buddhist studies and applied Buddhist studies, placing technical subjects under the second category.

Previously, these programs were run under the Faculty of Engineering Development Studies and Applied Science, and the Faculty of Management, Tourism and Social Sciences.

Students who studied these subjects have grown anxious after receiving transcripts listing a different faculty.

Students complain that the legal basis, academic rationale and impact on their certificates have not been made clear.

Questions had previously been raised about this university, established for the study and research of Buddhist philosophy, granting affiliation to technical subjects.

Registrar Indra Kafle said the faculty discrepancy appearing on the transcripts was a technical error that can be corrected.
