Irrigation Department DG, Sunkoshi Marine project director taken into police custody

Police on Thursday took Irrigation Department Director General Dinesh Rajauriya and Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Project Director Krishna Kumar Rijal into custody.

Director General Rajauriya, who had gone to Madhesh Province for monitoring, was taken into custody after being served an urgent arrest warrant. He is being brought to Kathmandu.

Rajauriya had become the department's director general only a month ago.

A team from the District Police Office, Sindhuli, arrested Director Rijal from his office at the project itself.

Sindhuli Police said the action was taken following correspondence from the District Police Range, Kathmandu.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Bijay Shrestha said Rijal was sent to Kathmandu after instructions came to produce him for investigation.

However, police have not disclosed why the two officials were arrested.

The financial bid for the construction of the headworks and powerhouse of this project of national pride had been set to open next Monday.
