The Nepali Congress has demanded that Sudurpashchim Province Chief Minister Khagraj Bhatt and all his ministers resign on moral grounds.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Congress parliamentary party on Monday, chaired by party leader and outgoing Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah. The meeting concluded that the provincial government had acted irresponsibly in preparing and passing the budget for fiscal year 2083/84.

Citing constitutional, legal and political grounds, Congress called on the government to step down immediately. The meeting also accused Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari of forgetting the dignity of his position, and Congress raised questions about the Speaker's role in the budget-passing process.

CPN-UML leader Bhatt was appointed chief minister on Saun 29 with UML support after the ruling coalition shifted. His government decided to bring a supplementary budget, arguing that the budget brought by the previous Shah-led government was unworkable, and the current fiscal year's budget was introduced on Asoj 25 under that decision.
