CPN-UML leader and former minister Gokul Baskota has strongly objected to remarks made by Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle in India.

Baskota criticized the finance minister in a Facebook post on Saturday. During a recent visit to India, Finance Minister Wagle had shared his views on Nepali nationalism and Nepal-India relations at an interaction program in New Delhi.

Wagle had said that in the past, opposing India was itself framed as nationalism in Nepal, and that the new generation no longer holds that view. Objecting to this, Baskota remarked that the finance minister "badmouths" the nation as soon as he reaches India.

Calling Wagle's remarks "a bankruptcy of intellectual knowledge," Baskota said they were politically, diplomatically and historically wrong on the question of nationalism and national interest.
