Farmers rush to harvest paddy as Dashain arrives: Ramechhap, Gulmi fields turn golden

With the festive bustle of Dashain, farmers in Ramechhap and Gulmi are busy harvesting ripened paddy from their fields. In Ramechhap, fields along the banks of the Tamakoshi river have turned yellow with ripened paddy. Farmers there are busy cutting, drying and bringing the paddy home.

In Ghyubenshi, Rrau Rural Municipality-4 of Gulmi, farmers have been working in the fields since early morning. Farmers including local farmer Parashuram Gyawali are worried that production will fall this year due to continuous rain in Asoj.

Since unseasonal rain damaged the ripened paddy, farmers rush to cut and thresh it as soon as the sun comes out. Having to harvest crops during the festival season has kept farmers extremely busy.

According to Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment data for fiscal year 2082/83, the country's paddy production has declined compared to the previous year. The report notes that this decline in production can be improved through the use of better seeds and irrigation technology.
