Gen Z campaign to hold protest over Ani Choeying's appointment to Lumbini fund

The National Gen Z Citizens' Campaign is set to hold a rally in Kathmandu against the government's decision to appoint Buddhist nun Ani Choeying Dolma as vice-chair of the Lumbini Development Fund.
According to a notice issued by the campaign's central committee on Sunday, a peaceful protest rally will be held at Maitighar Mandala on Monday, Kartik 9, at 11 am.
The appointment was made by the Cabinet meeting held on Asoj 30, based on a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.
The campaign has demanded that the government make public the legal basis and justification for the appointment.
Meanwhile, Gen Z activist Ajay Sodari has written a letter to Minister Khadga Raj Paudel (Ganesh) of the same ministry seeking clarification. The letter asks for answers on the legal basis for the appointment, the qualifications and selection process involved, and whether a background assessment was carried out before the appointment.
Noting that Lumbini is a World Heritage site tied to Nepal's historical, religious and cultural identity, Sodari questioned the appointment made to lead it.
