Election Commission to update voter rolls using vital registration system data

The Election Commission will use records from the Department of National ID and Civil Registration to update voter rolls and verify details. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Commission and the department on Kartik 12.

Under the agreement, details from the Personal Event Registration System and the Social Security Management Information System will be used for the voter rolls. Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the department would provide registration-related details to the Commission through a secure technical channel.

The memorandum states that the necessary technical system will be developed for exchanging and using the data. Arrangements will also be made to maintain the security and confidentiality of the data.

The two agencies have begun this collaboration with the aim of making the voter-roll update process simple, organized and effective.
