Contract for Mechi Corridor's Belase-Golakharka pass road section terminated

The Road Division Office, Ilam has terminated the contract agreement for the Belase-Golakharka pass road section under the Mechi Corridor. Citing long-pending, abandoned work, the office on Wednesday terminated the contract of construction company Saksham JV.

Under the Mechi Corridor (Kechana-Kanchenjunga road), the contract had been awarded to upgrade 9.5 km of road in this section. According to Ratopati, only 45 percent of the work had been completed in five years. According to other media outlets, work on this road section had been abandoned for three years.

Although the contractor's deadline was extended repeatedly, construction progress remained unsatisfactory. The Road Division Office, Ilam then decided to terminate the contract agreement.
