Post-Dasain rush back to Kathmandu, heavy traffic on BP Highway

With the Dasain holidays over, large numbers of people who had gone to their home villages have begun returning to Kathmandu Valley.
Since government offices resume regular operation from Monday, the number of commuters entering the valley has risen markedly. Crowds of passengers and vehicles have been seen at major entry points and transport hubs such as Naagdhunga, Kalanki, Balaju, Koteshwor and Balkhu. The number of vehicles and returning passengers has also increased around the New Bus Park area.
The valley, which had grown quiet for a few days as many residents went home for Dasain, has seen activity pick up again. As daily activity gradually resumes, pressure on roads and public transport across the valley continues to rise.
The BP Highway connecting Kathmandu has also seen heavier traffic because of people returning home. With more people on the highway, crowds have also grown at Sindhuli's tourist spots, Sindhuligadhi and Selfie Danda, in Sindhuli district. Travelers have been stopping there to view the scenery, take photos and videos, and buy local oranges and sweet lemons.
