CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli has made a satirical remark about fake gods being born in society and causing growing trouble.

He made the comment on Tuesday in Kathmandu at a program to unveil a souvenir publication of the Madan Bhandari Memorial Foundation Nepal.

Drawing on a mythological reference, Oli said that although the birth of gods' offspring was halted after Parvati's curse, fake gods are now appearing.

He said Nepalis have a tendency to grab the feet of any ascetic arriving from the south and bow to them the moment they see one.

He also expressed displeasure at the practice of knowing little about the country's own scholars while citing foreign writers more than Nepali ones in articles.

According to chair Oli, attempts have recently been made to spread confusion by linking yoga with God. He claimed that in the Samkhya and Shaiva traditions, yoga was not mixed with theism, and that this mixing happened only later, in Patanjali's time.

The 368-page souvenir unveiled at the event covers educational development, technical and vocational education, and the foundation's activities.
