The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that 860 Nepali citizens have so far been rescued from online scam centers in Southeast Asia.

Ministry spokesperson Lokbahadur Paudel Chhetri gave this information at a regular press meet on Friday. According to him, the rescues were carried out from centers operating along the border areas of Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Thailand.

Spokesperson Paudel Chhetri said the flow of Nepalis getting trapped in such centers has still not been fully stopped. Victims and their relatives continue to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Consular Services and the respective Nepali embassies.

The ministry said diplomatic coordination is underway with the government agencies of those countries to safely bring back the stranded citizens. It has urged the public not to fall for false promises and not to get involved in illegal work.
