Rara lake project still stalled after four years despite Rs 450 million budget

A tourism infrastructure project launched at Karnali's major destination, Rara Lake, remains stalled even after four years.

The project, under the province's Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment, costs about Rs 45.29 crore (roughly Rs 452.9 million).

Physical progress on the project is limited to about 20 percent, but the construction contractor has already received around 32 percent of the total payment.

The agreement for the project was signed on Asar 24, 2079. After the set deadline expired, the ministry has begun the process of extending the time, but work at the construction site remains halted.

Minister Kalyani Khadka said the contract would be cancelled if work does not resume. Local residents have complained that they have lost out on the benefits they should have gained from tourism because the project was not completed on time.
