Egg wholesale price rises with festival demand, retail price unchanged

With the onset of festivals and winter, the Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association has raised the wholesale support price of eggs due to rising demand, but the retail price paid by consumers has been kept unchanged.
The association set the new prices at a meeting held in Pokhara on Thursday.
Association chairperson Binod Pokharel said the price fixed at a meeting held in Kathmandu on Kartik 6 was revised within just six days.
Prices have been fixed in four categories — XL, large, medium and small — based on crate weight.
According to the association, the price of XL, large and medium eggs has risen by about Rs 200 per crate, while small eggs have risen by about Rs 100.
An XL crate, weighing 14.5 to 14.8 kg, has risen from around Rs 3,700 to Rs 3,900. A large crate, weighing 13.5 to 13.8 kg, has risen from around Rs 3,600 to Rs 3,800. A medium crate, weighing 12.5 to 12.8 kg, has risen from around Rs 3,500 to Rs 3,700.
