Rs 54 million budget approved for Swayambhu conservation

A budget of Rs 54 million has been approved for the conservation and management of the Swayambhu area, listed as a World Heritage site, for the current fiscal year 2083/84. The amount, passed by the Swayambhu Management and Conservation Committee, is Rs 2.5 million more than last fiscal year.
According to the committee, 39 percent of the total budget will be spent on infrastructure construction and conservation in and around Swayambhu, while the remaining 61 percent has been allocated for administrative headings.
Committee chairman Bhikshu Dharmamurti said emphasis will be given to renovating the Mahachaitya and its associated structures while preserving their original form. The committee has been working to inform domestic and foreign tourists and devotees about the history of Swayambhu, conduct regular worship, and plant trees to conserve the religious forest.
The committee said it will move forward by coordinating with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Kathmandu Metropolitan City and other agencies.
