Nepal urges faster new report on climate loss and damage

Nepal has stressed at an international meeting the need to produce new scientific evidence on climate change-related loss and damage, and the financial support needed to address it, in a timely manner.
However, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been unable to decide by when such a report should be prepared. The Panel's 65th session, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from October 12 to 16, was adjourned after members failed to agree on the timeline and upcoming budget for the Seventh Assessment Report.
Nepal had taken the position that reports from all three main scientific working groups should be published by 2028. Nepal's argument is recorded in the meeting record published by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD).
According to that record, Nepal argued that fresh scientific reports on climate finance, loss and damage, barriers to accessing support, and sustainable development were necessary.
